With Robert Katz, film producer

Swagger by Olivier Babinet (2016, 84 min.)

Swagger's bold colors and exuberant soundtrack by Jean-Benoît Dunckel, from the French electronic duo Air, come together to illustrate the beautiful, generous, and breathtaking dreams of eleven middle school students in the projects of Aulnay-sous-Bois, a Parisian suburb. In a confessional style, the group of mostly first generation French citizens reflect on their lives, love, and visions of the future in a mature and memorable way. Not just another film about the challenges of life in la banlieue, this documentary shows us the magnificence of friendship and youth.

A native of Deerfield, Illinois, Robert Katz has more than 27 years’ experience in worldwide film production. His feature-film credits include work on films as wide ranging as The Painted Veil and Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, and award-winners Sea Biscuit and Crash.

Short film brought to you by the Chicago International Film Festival: Vacuum Kid by Katherine Mahalic (2010, 12 min., English)
